16th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève – where the horological David and Goliath share a stage
Last night we witnessed one of the most famous annual industry award ceremonies in the world at the at the Théâtre du Léman. The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) was created in 2001 and it honours the best the world of watch-making has to offer. We see small independent brads sharing the stage with established large ‘institutions’ of the industry.
The main objective of the Foundation of the GPHG is to contribute, honour and promote Swiss watchmaking and its values around the world.
After the ceremony, the watches pre-selected for the GPHG, and the winners, are showcased in a travelling exhibition that enables international audiences to discover the finest timepieces of the year, brought together especially for this occasion. The exhibition is held each year during the months of October and November in the countries that generate the greatest interest in the watch market.
After initial stopovers in Seoul and Rome, the exhibition presenting all of the 72 pre-selected watches remains on show in Geneva until November 12th at the Cité du Temps. The prizewinning watches of this 2016 vintage will be exhibited in Dubai from November 15th to 19th as part of the second Dubai Watch Week.
The prestigious international jury formed of 27 experts, selected and announced the winners of 15 prizes and awarded the coveted “Aiguiile d’Or” Grand Prix to Ferdinand Berthoud for the Chronomètre Ferdinand Berthoud FB 1 model.
